As the Waters Cover the Sea - A Flood of Glory

In Habakkuk's vision, he saw a time when the glory of God would fill the earth as the waters cover the sea. As we apply the whole of Scripture to our view of the end times, Habakkuk's vision informs our understanding that first the Gospel will be preached to all nations, and some percentage within every people group will receive Jesus.

Key Concepts: Flood of Glory, and Ethnic Rainbow℠

Floods are usually caused by too much rain, too quickly. The runoff causes the sudden rise of streams and rivers to overflow their banks. A flood of glory is a sudden inrush of the glory of God, causing an overflow of spiritual awakening and revival. This flood of glory will not only impact all the nations of the earth, but all aspects of life, including government, education, media, arts and entertainment, economy, religion, and family. The Spirit of God will move through the whole earth like a rising tide, blessing all nations.

An ethnic rainbow℠ will result from this flood of glory. The rainbow displayed at the end of the first great flood symbolized an everlasting covenant between God and man, when God promised not to destroy the earth with a flood again. (Gen. 9:16) This was a historical event with everlasting implications for mankind upon the earth.

Within white light are all the colors of the rainbow. The rainbow is an expression of the visible light spectrum ROYGBIV: R (red), O (orange), Y (yellow), G (green), B (blue), I (indigo), V (violet). Likewise, an ethnic rainbow℠ displaying the diversity of humanity will be a shining witness upon the earth, as some percentage from every tongue, tribe, language and nation receive the salvation of God through Jesus and the earth is filled with their praises. This will bring praise and honor to God as His glory is spread among all nations. The glory of God will be expressed by people of every tongue, language, tribe and nation. This is what the Apostle John saw in Rev. 7:9-10.

Key Word Definition: ethnic (adjective)

- relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition.

Excerpts from Devotional 11 with highlighted phrases:

"Where the first flood covered the earth and brought destruction back in Noah’s day, a final one will fill the earth with glory and bring blessing before Jesus returns. This flood of glory, like a continual rising tide, will become known worldwide with the spreading of the Gospel to all nations."

"Along with these floods are God’s promises: the first was sealed with a rainbow, reminding us the earth will never be destroyed by water again. The last will be marked by an ‘ethnic rainbow’ as the worship of God emerges from every tongue, tribe, language and nation, and then the end will come. (Matt. 24:14)"

Scripture:

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14 (NIV)
